Hull Ionians dominated the first half to secure the try bonus point by half time with their dominant pack driving over for three tries then running in the fourth.
Dudley found new life after the break and looked to be making a comeback until man of the match Richard Fletcher punished their dropped pass on the hour to hand off tackles and run 60 metres to score, thus breaking the visitor’s spirit.
Dudley conceded too many penalties and were duly punished as James Ferguson kicked the second for 3 points in the second minute.
Then a promising attack lost the ball in the tackle and Dudley counter attacked from deep with good support play ending with a try by Stefan Shillingford.
The high visitor’s penalty count continued setting up Hull Ionians with an attacking line-out well taken by Joe Makin then driven on for Kerry Wood to once again have his hands on the ball for his fifth try this season.
Hull Ionians dominated the scrums in the first half, winning whoever put it in, and on 21 minutes a 5 metre scrum was inevitably driven over for a try by Danny Hague.
Dudley replied with a penalty by Bown but with Dudley down to 14 men for their repeated infringements another 5 metre scrum was driven over for Hague to score again, Ferguson converting.
To close the half a good follow up tackle by Joey Martin regained the ball and with flowing rugby Joe Makin ran under the posts, Ferguson again converting.
Dudley were the better side for the next quarter but Hull Ionians went close when Joey Martin stretched out of the tackle to put the ball almost on the line, but it was called a couple of millimetres short. Dudley finally gained reward when Matt Farrington gathered a chip through to score.
Three minutes later Dudley dropped a poor pass and Richard Fletcher was first there to gather the loose ball and run 60 metres to the posts, handing off would be tacklers on the way.
The last ten saw Hull Ionians pack driving forwards again, Sam Wilson thought he was through to score but the pass was called forwards, but a break by Will Nutbeen continued by Dave Laverick released Isaac Green to dive under the posts, Ferguson adding two more goals.
