John Cartmell

Brian Norman14 Jan - 16:07

It is with deep regret that the Club records the passing of John Cartmell.

John, 59, was tragically involved in a single-vehicle collision on the A1034, South Cave turnoff, last Wednesday afternoon. Emergency services were called, but John was sadly discovered to have died at the scene.
The family have said: “John was a loving son, father, brother, partner, uncle, friend, and devoted grandad who will be deeply missed by all who knew him”.

John played for Ionians RUFC all through the Mini Junior age groups as did his brother Paul, who is a couple of years younger. John also spent some time at Hull KR Colts.
John made his debut for Ionians RUFC 1stXV in Feb 1986 and went on to make 66 appearances, scoring 12 try’s. John was the last captain of Ionians RUFC, in season 1988/89, prior to the merger with Hull & East Riding RUFC and the emergence of our club today, Hull Ionians RUFC.
Unfortunately John was injured in the December of his year as captain and did not play again for some time.

John is remembered as a happy, cheerful character who was liked by all who knew him, met him or worked with him. He will be sadly missed.

All at Hull Ionians RUFC would wish to send their sincerest condolences to his family, partner Diane, sons William & Josh, daughter Lizzie and grandchildren Ivar & Florrie and also, to his brother Paul who is well known to many at the Club, having played for Hull Ionians RUFC.

The Funeral arrangements will be provided when announced.
Please note: As John was a past captain of Ionians RUFC, we will observe a minute silence in memory of John, prior to this Saturday’s home match with Leeds RUFC.

Chris Taylor
Secretary
Hull Ionians RUFC
