Sally Wilson
It is with the deepest of regret that we have to announce the passing of Sally Wilson.
Sally had been diagnosed with cancer of the liver last year and was receiving treatment but fell ill during last week and sadly passed away on the morning of Friday 7th March 2025.
Sally is known to us all as the wife of our most popular President Pat, Mother to Sam & Josh, cherished family member and friend to all who knew her.
Sally’s involvement at the Club began when Sam was 5 years old and joined our Mini Junior Section. She thoroughly enjoyed watching Sam play and was an immensely proud mother when Sam made his 1stXV debut for the Club. Part of Sally’s legacy is that she provided the Club’s current top try scorer, for which the Club is very grateful.
Sally was equally as proud of Josh when he started playing for the Club but, Josh found more success at Goole RUFC where he was part of their successful National Junior Vase Winning Team, giving Pat & Sally a great day out at Twickenham in 2017.
Sally has been part of the Club for many years and, along with her team of volunteers, Sally has raised thousands of Pounds for the Club by running the regular 1st XV match day raffle.
Sally also helped to form the Club’s successful Ladies Rounders team, in 2014. The team has gone from strength to strength with our Ladies competing in the local leagues during the summer months and helping to keep the Club busy on Tuesday nights.
Together, Pat & Sally have been involved in organising countless events held at the Club, from Summer Balls and Presidents Day’s, to Ladies Nights and, far too many others to mention.
Sally was always prepared to support Pat at Pre-Match Committee lunches and, such was Sally’s popularity, the Club has already received several messages of condolence from Club Committees and friends in National 2 North and Yorkshire.
Sally was not just a beautiful woman, she was also a beautiful person who was universally liked by all who met her and, although not knowing it at the time, all of those present at Pat’s recent Presidents Day will be thankful and grateful that they had the chance to spend one more fun day at the Club with Pat & Sally and the family.
Words cannot fully capture the sorrow we are all feeling just now. The loss of Sally will leave an indelible void in all our hearts and our deepest condolences go out to Pat, Sam, Josh and all of the family. Please be assured that your Rugby Club ‘family’ is here for you during this incredibly difficult time.
There will be a minutes silence held in remembrance of Sally, prior to the Kick-Off at this weekend’s home match against Sheffield RUFC and, funeral arrangements will be announced when confirmed by the family.
